In short

A debt snowball spreadsheet that shows the avalanche too

Debt Payoff Planner is a one-time download: an offline web app (no account needed) plus a separate Google Sheets™ template (free Google account) for listing your debts, comparing snowball, avalanche and your own payoff order month by month, and recording what you actually paid. No subscription.

With several debts, it's hard to tell which order makes sense and when the last one would be paid off. You enter each debt – balance, APR, minimum payment and due day – plus one monthly budget. The planner builds a month-by-month plan and puts Debt Snowball, Debt Avalanche, your own order and minimum payments only side by side: projected payoff date, months and total interest under its model. A what-if calculator tests a higher budget or an extra payment without touching your saved plan.

It's an estimate, not your lender's schedule. Interest is worked out as balance × APR ÷ 12, and lenders may use daily interest or fees. There's no bank connection, and nothing counts as paid until you record a payment.

An organizing tool – not financial, tax or legal advice.

What it does

Your debts and your plan

  • Balance, APR, minimum payment and due day for every debt, plus an optional promotional rate with an end month
  • One monthly budget – anything above the minimums speeds up the plan
  • Month-by-month plan with interest, payments and remaining balance per debt; freed-up payments roll over

Strategies

  • Debt Snowball: smallest balance first
  • Debt Avalanche: highest interest rate first
  • Your own order, plus minimum payments only as a baseline
  • Projected payoff date, months, total interest and interest saved side by side

Testing changes and tracking payments

  • What-if calculator for a new budget, a one-time or a recurring extra payment
  • Extra payments for one debt or following your strategy
  • Record actual payments with the principal and interest split
  • Payoff progress, debt breakdown, balance over time and interest vs. principal

In the web app

  • Save several scenarios – your plan only changes when you apply one
  • Close a month to compare plan vs. actual, and correct a balance to match your lender's statement
  • CSV exports, print views and a JSON backup

Web app or Google Sheets?

Both versions are in your download – each compares snowball, avalanche, your own order and minimum payments only. They are separate files; pick the one that fits how you work.

How it works

  1. Buy on Etsy

Check out on Etsy, then download your files in a web browser – not in the Etsy app.

  2. Open START HERE

The guide shows which web app file to open and has your Google Sheets copy links and the link for iPhone and iPad.

  3. Start planning

Open the web app in your browser, or make your own copy of the Google Sheets template, and add your first entry.

Good to know

  • This is a planning estimate based on the numbers you enter – not financial, credit or legal advice and not a lender's official repayment schedule
  • Monthly interest is estimated as balance × APR ÷ 12; your lender may calculate differently (daily interest, fees)
  • No bank connection – you enter balances and payments yourself
  • The web app stores data locally in your browser – export JSON backups regularly
  • Web app and Google Sheets work independently and do not sync; plan vs. actual with a saved baseline is a web app feature
  • Instant digital download – no physical item will be shipped
  • For personal use only – sharing, forwarding or reselling the files is not allowed

Questions about the Debt Payoff Planner

Does it connect to my bank or lender?

No. There's no bank login and nothing is uploaded. You enter balances and payments yourself.

Why does my lender show a different interest amount?

The planner estimates monthly interest as balance × APR ÷ 12. Lenders may use daily interest, fees or other methods, so every date and amount here is an estimate.

Snowball or avalanche – which one should I pick?

That's your call. The comparison shows both with your own numbers: avalanche often means less interest under the model, while snowball pays off the smallest balances first.

Do I need an account?

The web app needs no account – you open the file in your browser. The Google Sheets version needs a free Google account. There's no stillmeasure. account and no subscription.

Where is my plan saved – and do the two versions sync?

The web app saves your plan in your browser on that device – export a JSON backup regularly. The Google Sheets version is your own copy in Google Drive. The two don't sync.

Does it work on my iPhone or iPad?

iPhone & iPad: open the web-app link from your START HERE guide in Safari and add it to your Home Screen. A downloaded HTML file on its own only opens as a preview on iPhone and iPad.

Can I use it in Excel?

It isn't supported. The spreadsheet is built for Google Sheets.
