Puzzle games are one of the most crowded categories on Google Play, and many of them look alike in screenshots. What separates them is the kind of thinking they ask for: counting and ruling out, planning moves ahead, timing, or simply looking at a scene in a new way. That is how we built this list. Each pick stands for one type of puzzle, so you can start with the style that sounds most like you.
How we chose
We started from the puzzle category on Google Play and looked for established games that each cover a different style of puzzle. For every game we checked the official store listing on 21 October 2026: the developer, whether the listing says "Contains ads", whether it offers in-app purchases, and whether the game itself is free or paid. Feature details such as the number of puzzles come from those listings, and we say so where we quote them.
What we left out on purpose: ratings and download numbers. They change every day and say little about whether a puzzle style suits you. This is also not a long-term test of each game, so we describe what each one is, not how it ranks.

Cut the Rope adds physics. Candy hangs from ropes, and you cut them so it swings, falls and rolls into the mouth of the little monster Om Nom. Our own game: Snake Escape
To be transparent: we make puzzle games ourselves. Snake Escape: Brain Puzzle is our first game, a tap-away logic puzzle. Snakes lie on a board, each one slides off in the direction its head points, and only if nothing blocks its path. Finding the right order is the whole puzzle.
Because it is our own game, Snake Escape is not one of the picks above. It is available for Android on Google Play, and you can try 10 of the hardest levels in your browser on the game page: Knot levels from worlds 7 to 10, each with three lives. The Android app has 5,000 levels in 10 worlds. It is free with ads, though not after every level, and a one-time in-app purchase removes the ads. We announced the demo in Snake Escape: try 10 of the hardest levels in your browser.

How to find your puzzle type
- Pick two or three types that sound good, not eight games at once.
- Play the first levels even if they feel easy. They teach the patterns later levels rely on.
- Check the ads after a few rounds. How often an ad appears matters more than whether there are ads at all.
- Keep the one you want to open again tomorrow. That is your type.
